Great Bustards on the Steppes around Trujillo

One of the iconic but declining and vulnerable species threatened by all the typical man induced features of climate change, habitat change and changes in pastoral farming plus increasing human disturbance;

Griffon Vultures

Major concentrations occur in Monfrague National Park which is the best place to get close up photos

Lesser Kestrels

In early March 2009 we spent periods of three days photographing this Lesser Kestrel colony in superb light with clear air forming the perfect conditions. The birds were still setting up breeding territories and fighting over nest sites and hence there was a lot of action and the birds were remarkably tame; all the images are hand held and with no hides we were just stood around the colony with people walking nearby an idyllic photographic session.

Montagu’s Harriers

Another of the iconic and special species of the steppes
