Elegant Tern Thalasseus elegans Cemlyn Bay, Anglesey July 5th 2021

An unusual twitch for me these days but Cemlyn is such a great place and previous visits for Bridled and Sooty Terns were major events in my birding career. The Bridled Tern twitch was a bit of a stressful event; set off after a 2-10 shift and drove to Hartshead Moor services where I was falling asleep so decided to have an hours sleep in the car at 23:30 and would still be there by dawn; seem to recall waking up at about 04:00 and cursing loudly with about 140 miles still to do then when we arrived the tern had flown off but all was well when it returned later. Those images were on slides but the Sooty Tern shots can be found here https://www.grahamcatley.com/rare-birds-in-britain/rare-birds-in-britain

The Elegant was very tricky regarding photography with full overhead sun and a strong cold wind from the south-west adding complications but the R6 did very well focusing on the bird and I was pleased to get a few images given the conditions.
